Social media influencer Sarthak Sachdeva recently posted a video on Instagram, offering travel enthusiasts a glimpse inside the Adachiwadi village, a place driven by community participation and shared values.
As per the video, the villagers prioritise cleanliness and were seen sweeping the roads by themselves, the first thing in the morning. The initiative of keeping their surroundings clean is a daily ritual for these people. Their commitment to sanitation was recognised by the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in 2024, with Adachiwadi being honoured as one of Maharashtra’s cleanest and smartest villages, as per a report by Mid-Day.
Salient features of futuristic village
Adachiwadi is so well-maintained that you can even spot the locations of the dustbins on Google Maps, as per the clip. Another stand-out aspect is that the village, unlike any other settlement, is equipped with a gym facility, offering a monthly membership of Rs 300. Despite no police presence, the crime rate here is exceptionally low, thanks to the CCTVs installed at almost every corner as well as the culture of mutual trust. One can also enjoy smooth Wi-Fi service here.
Do not be surprised if you notice water ATMs in the village, an innovation that blends affordability with accessibility. Residents here simply swipe a card to fill up their bottles for just 25 paise. According to 93-year-old Dnyaneshwar Maruti Pawar, a resident of Adachiwadi, the name of the village dates back to a 130-year-old well, which was once the only source of water. The village soon came to be called Adachi vihir asleli wadi and was later shortened to Adachiwadi.
More details about Adachiwadi and internet reactions
In terms of education, Adachiwadi exceeds expectations with its smart classrooms where every student is given a tablet and smartwatches, creating a modern learning environment. In what can be considered an unconventional practice, pupils assemble near a cremation ground in the evening, sitting on stadium-like granite platforms, under an aluminium roof, illuminated with rows of tube lights. The 2-hour session begins with a prayer and meditation and no phones are allowed during this time. According to Manisha Mhetre, a Zilla Parishad teacher posted at Adachiwadi, the evening study caters to doubt-solving and soft skills, reported The Indian Express.
The video further displayed that the walls of Adachiwadi village are not covered by stains but are artistically decorated with colourful illustrations, carrying messages about civic sense, responsibility, and progress. So far, the clip has amassed more than 7.1 million views, generating quite the buzz among users. Many wanted to know about the exact location, others couldn’t believe their eyes and jokingly said that the village was AI-generated. One person lauded the ‘mindset’ of the villagers.
