HDFC Bank’s Viral Customer Service Mishap
A Gurugram-based man’s interaction with HDFC Bank’s customer care team has gone viral, sparking amusement across social media. The incident unfolded when Jayanta Chaudhuri, a marketing professional, took to LinkedIn to share his frustrating yet humorous experience with the bank while attempting to change his Relationship Manager (RM).

Customer Service Blunder?

In his now-viral post, Chaudhuri revealed that he had reached out to the bank, requesting a replacement for his RM, whom he described as “incompetent to the hilt.” However, instead of processing his request, the bank advised him to contact the very same RM to initiate the change.

Calling the response “pure genius,” Chaudhuri wrote, “HDFC Bank Customer Care team is brilliant. Told them that I wanted a change in my Relationship Manager, who is incompetent to the hilt. They wrote back and told me to contact him for doing the needful.”

His post quickly gained traction, drawing a mix of reactions from social media users. Some sympathized with his frustration, while others couldn’t help but find humor in the irony of the situation. One user commented, “Thanks, Jayanta, for making my day a bit more enjoyable,” while another remarked, “Sounds like classic customer service!”

HDFC Bank Responds

As the post gained attention, HDFC Bank responded, acknowledging the issue and assuring Chaudhuri that they were working on a resolution. The bank stated, “Hi Jayanta, we totally understand you’re looking for a change with your Relationship Manager, and we’re on it... We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, we’ll get this sorted for you right away!”

Despite the bank’s attempt to address the situation, the internet had already found humor in the exchange. One user sarcastically noted, “Great strategy… talk to the problem to solve the problem.” Another added, “Even they are not picking phone calls... showing how much they are busy.”

Another netizen pointed out that the bank's customer care is "always in a hurry to close tickets before issues are resolved." Other netizens also took this opportunity to point out several issues they faced from the customer-facing executives of the bank. One commented, "From past few years service experience with HDFC Bank is worst and their representatives are not ready to help the their customers on any issue. " One added, "I also have worst experience even after escalating upto VP level. Bank staff doing mistake and customer is suffering!"
