New Delhi, Singer Guru Randhawa has extended support to Assam by donating Rs 7 lakh, which will be used to build 35 permanent flood-proof homes amidst the ongoing floods.

Randhawa has partnered with the Sikh Aid Foundation, which is set to build properties in Sivasagar, Jorhat and Nepali Khuti regions of Upper Assam.

The organisation shared a post on the Instagram handle on Tuesday and expressed gratitude to the actor for his contribution to Assam. "Thank you, @gururandhawa for standing with Assam and adopting 35 families to help rebuild their homes and lives. Your support means the world to us. Together, we rebuild," read the caption.

Several celebrities, including Kartik Aaryan, Ayushmann Khurrana and Tahira, among others, have also contributed. The floods in Assam started on July 19 resulting in severe destruction. Golaghat is the worst-hit district with more than 71,000 people affected, followed by Sivasagar with over 21,000 people and Jorhat with over 13,000 people reeling under floodwaters.

Embankments, roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been damaged by floods in various districts of the state. Currently, Dhansiri at Golaghat and Numaligarh, and Kushiyara at Sribhumi are flowing above the danger level. PTI
