Gucci launches a smartband in collaboration with will.i.am

Italian luxury fashion house Gucci is smartening up by joining hands with the Black Eyed Peas' singer will.i.am to design a smartband. The duo made this announcement at the recently concluded Baselworld 2015.

The yet-to-be unveiled wearable tech collaboration is called ' Fashionology' by will.i.am. The smartband is conceived to make and receive phone calls as well as send and receive text messages and emails too.

It stores music, maps, and calendar and assists in tracking the wearer's fi tness. The "sophisticated personal assistant" which is activated by voice command also features a front-facing camera for video calling.

At Baselworld, will.i.am along with Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri fl aunted the prototype device that appeared to be a thick, wide band strapped on the wrist. Details regarding pricing, distribution and launch timing of the fashionable technology that will operate as a completely standalone smartband will be announced in due course.
