Grimes gives a new 'Y' twist to youngest Musk's name

Billionaire Elon Musk's children with singer Grimes have always made headlines, thanks to their unique names.

The 35-year-old, who welcomed her second baby and the Tesla CEO's 10th child in December 2021 via a surrogate, recently took to Twitter to share a glimpse of baby Exa Dark Sideræl (pronunciation: sigh-deer-ee-el).

Last week, the Canadian musician - whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher - shared a collage of her picture alongside her one-year-old, both twinning in a red onesie. Her caption said, "Y dragon emoji C."

In another tweet, she wrote, "Normally we post her for her privacy but she's fairly unrecognizable here since she's channelling Goku or smthn)."

In reply to a user, Grimes confirmed that Exa Dark Sideræl was renamed 'Y' or 'Why?' or just the question mark symbol '?'. Her tweet read, "She's Y now, or "Why?" or just "?" (But the government won't recognize that). Curiosity, the eternal question and such."

Earlier, Grimes had explained the meaning of her name after Baby Y's birth.

While Exa is derived from the supercomputing term 'exaFLOPS' - which means the 'ability to perform 1 quintillion floating-point operations per second', Dark is the 'unknown' like "dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe." Sideræl means "the true time of the universe, star time, deep space-time, not our relative earth time."

Grime had shared that the name may be "a little boring" for their taste and wouldn't mind if her daughter wanted to get it changed in the future.

Baby Y's big brother has an equally interesting name — X Æ A-Xii (pronunciation: X Ash A Twelve) - nicknamed Baby X.
