The helicopter carrying Rawat and his entourage crashed in apparently foggy conditions, killing the 13 people on board, the IAF and other officials said. One person survived the crash and is being treated at a hospital.
Several Bollywood celebrities took to their official social media accounts to pay tribute to Rawat. Actors Anupam Kher, Urmila Matondkar, Kamal Haasan, Kangana Ranaut, Lata Mangeshkar and other film personalities payed their condolences to the Chief of Defence Staff General.

Sharing a heartfelt note on Twitter in Hindi, Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar said the news of General Rawat and the death of 11 other army officers is extremely painful.
"The news of the death of CDS General Bipin Rawatji, his wife and 11 other Army officers in the helicopter crash is extremely painful. This has caused great loss to our country. I offer tearful tributes to these brave sons of Mother India. I share in the grief of his family," the singer wrote.

Expressing his grief, Veteran actor Anupam Kher said he is deeply saddened to hear the passing away of Rawat and other military officers.
