Google's Diwali surprise will light-up your screen, literally! How to join the celebration

The festival of lights, Diwali, is just around the corner. The festival, which goes on for days, is one of the most celebrated occasions in India, where people gear up for the season much in advance by decorating their homes with pretty lights, breaking into their traditional outfits and throwing get-togethers for friends and families.

The tech giant, Google is also down with the festive fever as the search engine delivered its early Diwali surprise in India.

As the countdown to Diwali began, Google took to Twitter to share the gift with everyone. The tech giant wants its users in India to search the word 'Diwali' in a text box on its search page for the surprise.


"Just here to say search Diwali for a surprise," Google wrote on Twitter along with the words 'search Diwali for a surprise' surrounded by earthen lamps (diyas).
As you type 'Diwali' in the search box and hit enter button, the normal search results page on Google shows up with an earthen lamp (diya) appearing as the first result.

When you click on the diya, several earthen lamps light up your search page. Even the cursor appears on the computer screen as a diya. The lamps stay throughout on the screen even as you scroll down on the page.

If you want to get the lamps to disappear from your Google page, then click on the ‘X’ symbol placed at the top on right side of the screen.

Steps To Light-Up Your Screen:

• To receive Google's Diwali surprise, open the search engine's browser.
• Type 'Diwali' in the search box and hit enter
• You can also search with another keyword, 'Diwali 2022'
• The results page will open with Diwali along with a diya appearing as the top search
• Now click on diya
• Several lamps will now light-up your screen
• Your cursor will also appear as a diya
