Google's Bard vs Microsoft's ChatGPT: What we know about the AI chatbot

Alphabet Inc recently introduced Bard against AI chatbot sensation ChatGPT, kickstarting a face-off with rival Microsoft. The tech giant is initially releasing Bard using LaMDA's lightweight model version.

Microsoft-backed OpenAI's ChatGPT has been making all kinds of right noise ever since the launch. It has taken the tech world by storm.

Just hours after launching Bard on Monday - Google’s answer to ChatGPT - Microsoft announced that it will be holding an event at the Redmond headquarters, which is being speculated to be a reveal show for its own AI.


So What Do We Know About Bard So Far?
Google’s new artificial intelligence (AI) service Bard is now open to "trusted testers" before the company starts rolling out for masses in the coming weeks.

When Microsoft had rolled out ChatGPT, it was open for testing to everyone and one could easily access it by logging in to OpenAI's website.

However, that doesn't seem to be the case with Bard, which is currently in the 1st testing phase. So only a few selected users can access it as of now.

Bard is an experimental conversational AI service which is powered by Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA), Google CEO Sundar Pichai said on Monday.

The ChatGPT’s rival aims to combine the depth of the "world's knowledge with the power, intelligence and creativity of our large language models".

It uses data from the web to provide fresh, high-quality responses to users on specific prompts.

According to Pichai, Bard can easily be an outlet for creativity and also a launchpad for curiosity which can help people explain new discoveries from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old.

This much smaller model requires significantly less computing power, allowing the company to scale to more users, resulting in more feedback.

Google will combine external feedback with its own internal testing to make sure Bard’s responses meet a high bar for quality, safety and groundedness in real-world information. "We're excited for this phase of testing to help us continue to learn and improve Bard’s quality and speed," Pichai added.
