Google on Monday dedicated a doodle to Australian cricketer Sir Donald George Bradman on his 110th birth anniversary.

Born in Cootamundra, New South Wales in 1908, the cricketer - a hero to Australian cricket fans - is considered the greatest batsman of all time.

With a lifetime Test batting average of 99.4, the cricketer, often referred to as 'The Don', continues to hold a number of records, including those of highest career batting average, highest series batting average, highest ratio of centuries and double centuries per innings played, among others.


In 1927, he made his debut as a 19-year-old in a first-class match between his New South Wales team and Adelaide, and went on to score a century (118 runs) in his very first match.

Over the course of his 21-year Test match career, he averaged at least one century every three innings. He amassed a total of 6,996 runs in 52 Test matches.

Google said in a post, "When Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack polled 100 former cricketers and journalists to determine the top cricketers of the 20th century, “The Don” was nominated by all 100."

He was honoured with a museum during his lifetime, called the “the greatest living Australian” by the Prime Minister, and Knighted in 1949.

Bradman was hospitalised with pneumonia in December 2000, two months after which he passed away at his residence on February 25, 2001 at the age of 92.
