Google Maps gets Material Design makeover
When Material Design was rolled out, as expected, a bunch of apps — including quite a few from Google's own bouquet — started sporting it. Now, it's the turn of Google Maps to get its name in that list.

From now on, when you launch Google Maps on your Android and iOS devices, you'll be greeted by bright colours and a fresh new design (given that you have upgraded your Google Maps App).

In a blog post announcing the rollout, Evelyn Kim, Google Maps UX Designer wrote, "By tapping on a place's info sheet at the bottom of your screen, you'll send an info layer gliding up to the top, showing you photos, reviews, and more. And for the adventurous souls looking for a new place to dine or visit, you'll see more to Explore at the bottom of your map."

She further added, "Layers and buttons come to life so you know just where to touch to get directions, recommendations and imagery."
