Google has introduced a slew of user safety and privacy features.
In the age of information technology, protecting oneself online is vital. Today, with widespread access to the Internet and billions having access to smartphones, enhanced cyber security is imperative. At the ongoing Google I/O event, the tech behemoth announced an array of security features. Cybersecurity has been a key agenda of the company.
Google illustrated its commitment to protecting people from cyberthreats by introducing a wide range of privacy and security features. Automatic 2-factor authentication (2FA), Account Safety Status, and a new tool to remove personal information from Google search results were among the notable features that were demonstrated at the event.
Automatic 2-Factor Authentication
The recent FIDO Alliance has united Google, Apple and Microsoft to develop a password-less technology for the future. At the I/O event, Google unveiled a slew of projects that outlined its plan for password-less technology. Google has plans to auto-enrol users into its two-factor authentication system. This will potentially reduce the threats posed by phishing.
Virtual Cards For Chrome The tech giant announced that it will be launching virtual credit cards for its Chrome browser and its operating system for Android smartphones. The new technology will allow users to use a virtual credit card number as a substitute for their actual credit card number that is stored on the browsers or devices.
This virtual card will be recognised by retailers who will be able to process transactions without viewing the real details. The technology essentially acts as a veil to protect users' credit cards and other vital information required during transactions. Google said that the virtual cards will be introduced in the US first and will be launched to the Chrome browser for iOS later.
