The doodle, created by Toronto-based designer Beena Mistry, marks the 246th birth anniversary of the 'father of the Indian Renaissance'.
Born into a Bengali-Brahmin family in West Bengal on May 22, 1772 to Ramakanto Roy and Tarini Devi, Roy founded the Brahmo Samaj, an influential social-religious reform movement, in 1828.
The Brahmo Samaj played a major role in reforming and modernising the Indian society.
Popularly known as the 'Maker of Modern India', Roy established numerous schools across the country to popularise a modern education system in India, and fought to abolish the practice of Sati. He also travelled to the UK as an ambassador of the Mughal Empire to ensure that Lord William Bentinck's 1829 Bengal Sati Regulation that banned the practice of Sati was not overturned.
In his first book, 'Tuhfat al-muwahhidin', he advocated for reason in religion and opposed ritualism.
