Labour Day 2018: Google celebrates the working class and labourers with a Doodle
Google on Tuesday dedicated a doodle to mark Labour Day, also known as Worker's Day.

Celebrated annually on May 1, the day that recognises the achievements of workers has origins in the labour union movement.

A national holiday in many countries, Labour Day was first celebrated in India in 1923 in Chennai as the result of an initiative taken by the Labour Kisan Party of Hindustan. The leader of the party, Comrade Singaravelar organised two meetings to celebrate the occasion, popularly known as May-Day in the country. This was the first time that a red flag was used in India.

While many other countries also celebrate the day on May 1, some others celebrate it on a different date, often one that holds a special significance for the labour movement in that country. In Canada and the United States, it is celebrated on the first Monday of September.

The doodle features symbols related to different professions, ranging from a stethoscope to a shovel.
