‘Gol Maal’ actor Amol Palekar admitted to Pune hospital after testing Covid-positive

The 77-year-old actor’s condition is stable as per reports.

Amol Palekar made his debut in Hindi cinema with Basu Chatterjee’s ‘Rajnigandha’ in 1974.
Veteran theatre artist and renowned Bollywood actor, Amol Palekar, has been hospitalised after he tested positive for Covid-19. The 77-year-old actor has been reportedly admitted to Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune. According to media reports, the actor’s condition is stable.

Often regarded as the ‘everyman’ of the ‘70s Hindi cinema, Palekar has starred in some of the most evergreen films. In the ‘70s the actor carved a niche for himself with films like ‘Gol Maal’, ‘Rajnigandha’, and ‘Chitchor’.

Palekar began his film career with the Marathi film ‘Shantata! Court Chalu Aahe’ in 1971. His first Hindi film was Basu Chatterjee’s ‘Rajnigandha’ released in 1974.


After gaining an overwhelming reception from the audience, Palekar went on to work in several ‘middle-class comedies’ of the time. ‘Gol Maal’ and ‘Naram Garam’ are known as iconic films that witnessed his collaboration with the powerhouse film-maker Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

The actor recently appeared in the crime thriller ‘200-Halla Ho’ directed by Sarthak Dasgupta. The film was released on Zee5 on August 20, 2021.
