GOAT OTT release leaves some Vijay fans disappointed. Director Venkat Prabhu drops hint about extended cut

Thalapathy Vijay’s latest blockbuster, The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), has made its much-anticipated digital debut on Netflix. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, this high-octane action drama is now available for streaming in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. However, fans who were eagerly awaiting an extended cut of the film were left disappointed.

Venkat Prabhu Addresses Fans' Concerns

Before its digital release, there was considerable speculation about the possibility of a director’s cut being made available. Venkat Prabhu, during earlier interviews, had hinted at this, sparking excitement among viewers. However, upon release, only the theatrical version of GOAT was uploaded to the platform.

Addressing the confusion, Prabhu took to social media to clarify the situation, stating, “For the director’s cut, a lot of VFX and final work is required guys!! I’ll talk to my producers at AGS Entertainment and see if we can release it as deleted scenes or an extended cut in the near future! For now, enjoy this version!!”



This update left fans of the film, especially those anticipating extra content, disappointed. Many had hoped that the extended cut would be part of the OTT release. As of now, Prabhu has confirmed that discussions are ongoing with the production house to release the extended cut as additional scenes or a separate version in the future.

Despite this, GOAT continues to enjoy tremendous success. The film, which hit theaters on September 5, has already grossed over ₹452 crores globally, surpassing its hefty ₹400 crore budget. Vijay's portrayal of dual roles—a father and son—earned him widespread praise for his versatility, with his darker, negative role particularly resonating with audiences.

The film boasts an ensemble cast, including Meenakshi Chaudhary, Prabhu Deva, Prasanth, Sneha, Ajmal Ameer, and Yogi Babu. Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the film's electrifying score, which has contributed significantly to the movie's immersive experience.
