Once considered old-fashioned, today millennials are warming up to gin. The grain spirit, whose main flavor is juniper berries, is experiencing a revival of sorts, with an upsurge in both, new varieties of gin as well as new consumers.
India, too, is joining this global trend, with gin gradually regaining importance in the country's metro cities.
In addition to making a comeback, the spirit is also getting a makeover and is no longer confined to traditional styles. It has set out to revolutionise the cocktail experience with its modern renditions of homegrown infusions, or craft gin.
This has given birth to a trendy new drink that has added elements ranging from citrus, floral and fruity to spices and herbs.

It's a spirit whose subtle flavour appeals largely to the Indian palate.
And a mark of Indians' increasing love for the spirit is the country's first gin bar, Juniper at Andaz Delhi. Housing over 35 varieties of gin, the bar also pays tribute to Delhi with a special infusion created using cumin, coriander, cardamom, ginger, vanilla and orange.
As the spirit continues to grow in popularity, experimentation with a wide variety of depths and intensities of flavours is likely to increase in the new year, and decade. Not just the creators, but drinkers too are expected to get more experimental with their gin.
2020 will see the entry of more bespoke homegrown gin brands with accessible price points taking over the Indian market. Additionally, there will also be a rise in the demand of sensory experiences surrounding gin as well as mixology workshops amidst Indian consumers.
