Get ready for transparent smartphones! Nothing likely to launch its first device in April

The former co-founder of OnePlus Carl Pei is back in the news. And, it is not about Nothing Ear (1) earbuds this time, but a potential smartphone from the recently established brand. OnePlus fans are well aware of the aesthetic sensibilities of Pei and anything he does with tech is bound to grab eyeballs.

A recent tweet by Carl Pei has created a buzz around the launch of a smartphone from his brand Nothing. Pei has been teasing the potential smartphone in a series of tweets in recent times. A recent report suggested that Pei’s company is likely to announce the smartphone in April this year.

The new device from Nothing is likely to feature a transparent design on the lines of the brand’s premium true wireless stereo earbuds launched in 2021. If reports are to be believed, the brand could officially announce the plans for its maiden smartphone soon.


His latest tweet is seen as a teaser for the upcoming Android phone. “Back on Android,” tweeted Pei setting the rumour mills abuzz.
While his tweet may suggest that he could be possibly switching back to an Android device after using an iOS device. However, subsequent responses from the Qualcomm account and Android hint at a smartphone in the making from the Nothing stable.

Meanwhile, in another report by TechCrunch, Carl Pei reportedly displayed a prototype of the Nothing smartphone at the recent Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain. It has been reported that Pei displayed the smartphone to key executives including a chip designer from Qualcomm. Now, after working for over a year on its first smartphone, Nothing may be finally ready to show it to the world.

While technical specifications of the smartphone are yet to be known, it has been reported that the device may feature transparent elements. In October 2021, the company had announced that it has tied up with Qualcomm to use the Snapdragon platform for its upcoming devices.
