Gender bias: The one Facebook post you need to read today

Despite what the society says, you don't need a man to make complete you. It's 2016, but somehow we still can't move forward from the notion that if you don't have a son, it's unfortunate, or if your husband leaves you, maybe the fault was yours.

Women have been blamed, pitied at for far too long just due to the absence of a man in their lives. But, things are changing, one step at a time.

A recent touching Facebook post by The Pink Ladoo showed that gender shouldn't and doesn't matter. The photo of a woman giving away her daughter's hand in marriage, a custom usually reserved for the father, is making waves for all the right reasons. This ritual, in absence of a father, is usually performed by some other male relative.

The question is why, why the bias. If a single mother can raise her daughters, why does she need some other relative to perform a ritual.




But women like Hernoor Grewal are here to change that. Her post talks about the hardships the five sisters and their mother had to endure initially, from gossiping neighbours to financial instability. But what stands out is the fact that despite it all, they came out on top - setting an example for many single-parent families.
