GDN: Jayaram’s look as Ambalapara Krishnan revealed in Madhavan’s biopic, film to release on August 7

The makers of director Krishnakumar Ramakumar’s much-awaited period film GDN have unveiled actor Jayaram’s look, adding another intriguing layer to the upcoming biopic. Starring R Madhavan in the lead, the film chronicles the extraordinary life of Indian inventor, agriculturist and philanthropist G D Naidu. Jayaram will be seen as Ambalapara Krishnan, a character described by the makers as a man who serves principles over power. GDN is scheduled to hit theatres worldwide on August 7.

Jayaram’s character revealed in GDN

Varghese Moolans Pictures, the production house behind GDN, took to Instagram on Wednesday to introduce Jayaram’s character. Sharing his first look, the makers revealed that the actor plays Ambalapara Krishnan. The production house described the character as someone who does not serve power but instead serves principles. The post also confirmed that GDN will arrive in theatres on August 7.

Jayaram’s look has added to the curiosity surrounding the period film, particularly after the trailer offered glimpses of his character as a powerful and seemingly antagonistic figure.

GDN trailer teases Jayaram’s powerful role

The trailer, released earlier this month, has already generated considerable interest among fans and film buffs.

It opens with a reference to G D Naidu’s later years, with a character claiming that the inventor had gone mad after allegedly bombing his own building. The trailer then introduces an Englishman questioning, “Who the hell is this fakir?”

Madhavan’s G D Naidu is subsequently introduced in a dramatic manner. The story touches upon his transport business, UMS, which made him wealthy, as well as his efforts to establish a polytechnic engineering college. Jayaram’s character also gets a striking moment in the trailer. Playing Krishnan, he questions G D Naidu over the fees charged by his institution and whether paying taxes is “a bitter pill to swallow.” The exchange hints at a conflict involving power, money, principles and G D Naidu’s unconventional approach to business and education.

Vinay Rai, Dushara Vijayan and other characters

The makers have been gradually introducing the film’s characters through individual first looks. Vinay Rai plays Bhupendra, while Dushara Vijayan has been introduced as Ranganayaki. Actor Karunakaran plays Perunkili and actress Aditi Balan portrays Padmavathi. The film also features Sheela as the young Chellamal, while Teejay Arunasalam plays the young G D Naidu.

Alongside Madhavan and Jayaram, the cast includes Carl Andrew Harte, Priyamani, Dushara Vijayan, Karunakaran, Sathyaraj, Aditi Balan, Vijay Rai and Teejay Arunasalam in pivotal roles.

GDN is based on the life of G D Naidu, the celebrated Indian inventor, agriculturist and philanthropist known for his contributions to engineering, technology and industry. Madhavan takes on the titular role, portraying the inventor across different stages of his life.
