Angelina Jolie shares before-and-after satellite images of destruction due to the Palestine war.
In the post shared on Instagram, Jolie, who has also served as a special envoy for the UN refugee agency, threw light on how the region has been reduced to rubble and how residents are left suffering immensely due to a lack of basic infrastructure and urgent humanitarian needs. “You can now open Google Earth and see what was done to Gaza,” she wrote in the Instagram post.
Speaking about the magnitude of impact caused by the war, which began in 2023, Jolie said, “Whole neighborhoods have been reduced to rubble." She further stated that homes, schools, universities, hospitals, roads, water and sanitation systems and other infrastructure had been damaged or destroyed.
Angelina Jolie calls for aid
In the same Instagram post, Jolie cited UN satellite analysis to emphasize upon the trail of destruction left behind in Gaza. She also called for aid and shelter for all the residents who are left reeling. She cited UN satellite analysis showing that, as of June 16, 2026, 82 per cent of structures in Gaza had been damaged, with roughly two-thirds of those assessed as destroyed.
“UN satellite analysis found that, as of 16 June 2026, 82% of Gaza’s structures had been damaged. Roughly two-thirds of those damaged structures were assessed as destroyed,” the actress wrote.
“As winter approaches, 1.98 million people, or 94% of Gaza’s population need shelter assistance and essential items. Aid and shelter materials continue to face restrictions and delay,” she added.
Echoing the concerns and plight of the people, Jolie expressed the sense o urgency regarding the humanitarian aid. She said, “People need shelter before winter. Humanitarian aid needs to reach civilians at the scale required. Hospitals need medical supplies. And the conditions that allow civilians to rebuild their homes, schools, hospitals and communities need to be created.”
Satellite images can only show physical destruction, says Jolie
Through her Instagram post, Jolie also strove to bring the attention towards the impact that the war has made on families who have lost their loved ones. She said that the images shared by her can only show the physical destruction but could not capture the impact on families who had been killed or what life was like for those who survived.
“The destruction is visible. The needs are known. What matters now is whether they are met,” Jolie wrote.
