Gandhari OTT release date and where to watch
Taapsee Pannu’s Gandhari will be available to stream on Netflix from September 3. The film was among the projects announced by the streaming giant earlier this year, but audiences had been waiting for confirmation about when they could watch it.Directed by Devashish Makhija, the film is being presented as an emotionally charged action thriller with elements of revenge and drama. Makhija is known for films such as Bhonsle (2018) and Joram (2023), both of which have received attention for their gritty storytelling.
Kanika Dhillon has written and produced Gandhari under her production banner, Kathha Pictures. The film marks another collaboration between Dhillon and Taapsee, who have previously worked together on several projects.
The supporting cast includes Ishwak Singh, Chhaya Kadam, Swastika Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht and Jatin Sarna.
What is Gandhari about?
While the makers have kept several details about the plot under wraps, Gandhari is described as a revenge-driven story centred on a mother and her fierce instinct to protect her child. The film is expected to take Taapsee into a physically demanding action space. Her character is pushed into extreme circumstances when everything she cares about is at stake, setting the stage for a personal battle filled with emotion and revenge.
A new poster released alongside the release-date announcement further hints at the film’s dark and intense tone. It features Taapsee standing against the imposing shadow of Goddess Kali, creating a visual connection with themes of strength, anger and vengeance.
Taapsee had earlier spoken about the demanding nature of the project. According to the actor, making the film required considerable physical and mental effort from the team. She also indicated that the makers were attempting to push themselves creatively while working under tight circumstances.
Taapsee Pannu and Kanika Dhillon’s fourth collaboration
Gandhari marks the fourth film collaboration between Taapsee Pannu and Kanika Dhillon. Their association began with Manmarziyaan in 2018, followed by the popular thriller Haseen Dillruba in 2021.The duo reunited for Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba, the sequel to Haseen Dillruba. With Gandhari, they are once again exploring a story driven by intense emotions, although this time the focus shifts strongly towards action and revenge.
For Taapsee, the film adds another challenging role to a career that has frequently seen her take on unconventional characters.
The actor was recently seen in Anubhav Sinha’s Assi, which received critical appreciation but did not perform strongly at the box office. Stay tuned for more details!
