Gajab Raat began streaming on Netflix on October 23. Directed by Ritesh Shah and written and produced by Neeraj Pandey under Friday Filmworks, the crime thriller stars Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role. The ensemble cast also includes Nushrratt Bharuccha, Divya Dutta, Saqib Saleem, Akshay Oberoi and Shraddha Das. Set over one chaotic night in Delhi, the film follows a corrupt police officer whose encounter with an injured woman draws him into a dangerous conspiracy. Who is the mystery girl Arya in Gajab Raat?

Manoj Bajpayee is Sub-inspector Ajay Nirvit, a Delhi police officer who is used to taking bribes and putting his own interest first. That night takes a different turn when an injured girl falls out of a moving car in Connaught Place. The woman, Arya Sahni, is first presented as an unidentified victim and Ajay is given false information that she may be a spy or sex worker.




Ajay digs into the case and finds out that Arya is actually a journalist who is working on a big investigation. She had discovered a conspiracy between drug companies and powerful people to create a fake vaccine shortage. It was meant to cause public panic, and raise the prices in the market.

Arya had recorded crucial conversations and other evidence as part of her investigation. However, her own editor betrayed her by passing information about her to CBI officer Naveen Madhok. Arya was abducted and tortured by those desperate to recover the evidence. When Naveen and his men attempted to get rid of her, she managed to escape by jumping out of his moving car. She survived the immediate danger but eventually fell into a coma.

The whole mystery revolves around an SD card that has the footage of the so-called conspiracy. Arya had evidence to reveal the people involved but she knew that if she was carrying the card in the open she would be in more danger. She swallowed it, for fear her assailants would learn the information.

This explains why several people are desperate to find Arya and silence her. The footage could expose influential figures and reveal how the alleged vaccine shortage was planned for financial gain.

Ajay eventually discovers that politician Suneeta Chaudhary, played by Divya Dutta, is at the centre of the conspiracy. Suneeta is determined to keep the evidence from becoming public. Knowing that Ajay has a history of corruption, the people behind the plot try to use his greed against him, offering him money to kill Arya.

But Ajay begins to doubt his choices. He knows killing Arya is letting the powerful get away with murder. His decision to defend her is a major shift for a man who has always put self-interest ahead of responsibility.

Things go from bad to worse when Suneeta reaches the hospital. If he refuses to kill Arya, she threatens to expose Ajay’s record of taking bribes. He has no intention of giving in to her pressure, but rather means to use the evidence against her.

How does Gajab Raat end? (Spoilers ahead)

Ajay gives Suneeta an ultimatum in the final confrontation. If Arya doesn't resign her political position and get proper medical care, he threatens to leak her footage to the public.

Faced with the possibility of the scandal becoming public, Suneeta agrees to his demands. The arrangement also protects other influential people who could be implicated by the evidence. Ajay’s move gives Arya a chance to survive, as she is sent to Singapore for treatment.

But the end is not total justice. Suneeta resigns and Arya gets a chance to receive treatment, but the bigger conspiracy remains hidden. Ajay uses the evidence to protect Arya, but he does not expose everyone involved, choosing to secure her safety first.

The ending also shows how Ajay's character changes over the course of the night. He starts as a corrupt cop willing to do anything for money, but ends up risking his own position to save Arya. He may not get full justice, but he makes a choice that could give her a chance at survival.
