In a recent interaction with ET Panache, Pratap Bose, Head of design of Tata Motors, revealed what will go into designing of an electric car:

“Currently, in India, regular cars are getting electrified, where the internal combustion engine is replaced with an electric powertrain — they are not born electric. But in the future, they will be inherently electric cars. There will be no engine in the front. The battery, layout floor will see a significant change. It is up to us to ensure that the changes are customer-friendly.

However, electric cars will have range anxiety. How many kilometres a vehicle can travel after a single charge will be critical. The interface between the car and its occupant would be an important factor as well. These are the things electric car designers are occupied with now. Also, since electric cars are silent, we must ensure that they pose no risk for the visually impaired and children on the street.”
