Future Apple Watches could feature external flashlight upgrade for low-light conditions, new patent reveals

American tech giant Apple has been granted a patent for an external flashlight feature on future Apple Watches, potentially revolutionising how users navigate in low-light conditions.

While current models include an integrated flashlight that illuminates the display, the upcoming upgrade aims to introduce a dedicated external flashlight on the watch bands, according to GSM Arena.

The patent, titled 'Modular Light Assembly For A Wearable Device', reveals a new approach towards enhancing user experience in dark environments. Unlike the existing flashlight, the external module can be connected externally to the smartwatch's housing and band, offering a more practical solution.


This design allows users to point the light in any direction, similar to a torch, without the limitations of the current on-screen flashlight's range and brightness.

The patent further emphasises the convenience of a separate power source for the modular light, ensuring it won't impact the Apple Watch's battery life.

This external flashlight may also feature a dedicated button for easy on/off functionality, eliminating the need for interaction with the Apple Watch itself.
