The news of his wife being diagnosed with cancer made Rathi realise the value of insurance.

Never give up, is the mantra that has always driven Parthiv Group founder Rakesh Rathi.

While Rathi finished his schooling from Mumbai and graduation from Kishangarh (Rajasthan), he was never an exemplary student — he failed in class 10. But his determination saw him pursue a chartered accountancy course and become the first in his family to get a professional degree.

Starting off his career at Provogue India Limited from 2002, Rathi went on to hold senior positions at Kisan Pipe, Dr Batras, Esselworld and Smaaash between 2002 and 2014.

However, it was his wife Sudha’s dream that inspired him to start his own venture, the Parthiv Group, in 2015. The business that started with one team member now has a staff of 300+, along with 45+ branches across India.

When Sudha was diagnosed with cancer, Rathi was running from pillar to post trying to manage between hospital, doctors, work, and also trying to spend time with his family.

It was then he realised that the tool one depended on at such critical times — insurance — was of little use to him. His policy was not renewed on time, and it also wasn’t the best cover product to cover the expense of the ailment.

That experience inspired him to enter the insurance broking business in 2016 with Efficient Insurance Brokers Pvt Ltd. Today, it is considered one of the fastest growing companies in India, present in 38 locations along with 200+ team members.

Efficient Insurance helps clients determine their exposures, structure their insurance programs, negotiate rates, terms and conditions, place their risks with one or more insurance companies and ensure prompt and equitable settlement of claims.

The group also has presence in education through Edutorial Orbit, an initiative that aims to provide knowledge, along with practical interface of the market to students.

Parthiv Capital Private Limited was established to provide a range of transaction advisory services that are tailored to address the specific needs of various sectors.

"Of the billionaires I have known, money just brings out the basic traits in them. If they were jerks before they had money, they are simply jerks with a billion dollars.
"

You might expect a billionaire like Buffett to live in a sprawling mansion in some secluded location looking out to the sea or something.

Form is temporary, class is permanent, they say. And no one better than Buffett himself who lives by this rule of life. Nothing flashy works for the billionaire investor and philanthropist. He continues to live in the same house in the central Dundee neighborhood of Omaha that he bought in 1958 for $31,500.

"It’s better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behavior is better than yours and you’ll drift in that direction."

Even since he was young, Buffett’s not only been tactful, but an extremely intelligent and hard worker. While still in high school, he made money delivering newspapers, selling golf balls and stamps, and detailing cars, among other means.

By the time he turned 16, he had amassed the equivalent of $53,000.

"Wall Street is the only place that people ride to in a Rolls Royce to get advice from those who take the subway."

No one better than Mr. Buffett knows about the importance, and value, of money. And while it’s not unusual for billionaires to drive Rolls-Royces, Lamborghinis or Bentleys, it's not the same for the legendary investor.

Up until 2014, Buffett, who prefers vehicles by Ford and General Motors, drove an eight-year-old Cadillac.
