Emerging technologies like AI, electric mobility and robotics promise a new industrial revolution.
The 1920s are, perhaps, best remembered as a period of rapid wealth-creation. Automobiles, telephones, and consumer electronics became a fixture in most households in the West, making millionaires of the pioneering industrialists who built them.

The invisible hand of the market flexed its muscles to undo the ravages of the Great War. Ten of the 20 richest men in 1920 owned businesses linked to railroads, steel, machinery, oil, and automobiles — industries that relied on government patronage.

The gilded age of capitalism portrayed in 'The Great Gatsby' was followed by the Great Depression. Politicians and businessmen will be eager to learn from history as the world hurtles into the 2020s. In contrast to their counterparts from the last century, the majority of today’s wealthiest individuals made their money in sectors that have required little government handholding. Emerging technologies like AI, electric mobility and robotics promise a new industrial revolution, even as climate change, automation, and protectionism threaten to disrupt the existing world order.

India, which began the last century under colonial rule, has gained lost ground, spawning multinational enterprises of its own. The bean counters of Dalal Street have seen their fortunes soar in recent years, despite the engine of growth sputtering along.
