While visiting New Zealand last month, Shami turned interview for Saini (R).
Mohammed Shami, a senior member of India’s pace bowling team, is also playing mentor to the juniors. Among these is Navdeep Saini. While visiting New Zealand last month, Shami and Saini revealed that they are not only mentor and protégé, but also interviewer and subject.
The BCCI recently shared this video on its social media handles.
Talking about his first-ever outing with the Indian team, Saini said it was a dream come true. “A life-changing moment for me was going from playing at the local level to Ranji level to the Indian team. This was a great accomplishment,” he said.
The biggest challenge, it may appear, is to talk in languages he hasn’t yet mastered. Speaking in Hindi, Saini told Shami with a chuckle: “I am very calm, and more comfortable when talking in Punjabi. When I talk to team-mates like you, they find it very funny.”
