Indian princess Sophia Alexandra Duleep Singh (1876-1948) was recently featured on one of the eight heritage stamps released by the UK’s Royal Mail, which is honouring the suffragette movement. Here are other Indians on foreign stamps.





Mahatma Gandhi


Apart from India, Mahatma Gandhi has been featured on the stamps of more than 150 countries in the world, including the UK, Iran, Italy, Syria, Morocco, the US, Uganda, and Mauritius among others.

Sachin Tendulkar



The Master Blaster has been featured on the stamps of more than five countries, which include the United Kingdom and Togo. Tendulkar got his Indian stamp only after he retired in 2013, but the other countries stamps were issued earlier.

Mother Teresa

More than 50 countries have issued stamps featuring Mother Teresa. These include Brazil, Chad, France, Vatican City and Mongolia. In all the stamps, she is seen wearing her trademark white saree with blue stripes.

Rabindranath Tagore
The Indian poet and freedom fighter has been featured on stamps of about 14 nations. Tagore, who is a Nobel Prize winner in literature, has been featured on the stamps of Argentina, Bulgaria, Sri Lanka and Uruguay besides others. A number of these stamps were issued in 1961, which was the Bard of Bengal’s birth centenary. India Post also issued a number of stamps in the same year to mark the event.

Zubin Mehta
The Western music conductor has been featured on the stamps of Austria and Maldives. Mehta, who has travelled the world for his performances, is an honorary member of the Vienna State Opera, which explains an Austrian stamp dedicated to him.
