NEW DELHI: Kajol doesn't just come with acting talent, but also the genes. The actress, known for her versatile performances, belongs to one of Bollywood's biggest and oldest families, with relations to the iconic Kishore Kumar.

As the 'Fanaa' actress turns 45 today, here's a look at her (confusing and expansive) family tree.



The legendary Kishore Kumar, Anoop Kumar and Ashok Kumar were Kajol’s cousin grand-uncles.fathers The three brothers, who starred together in the classic ‘Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi’, the stars were the brothers of Sati Rani Mukherjee who was Kajol's grandmother. The four siblings were born to advocate Kunjalal Ganguly and his wife Gouri Rani Devi.

The next generation saw the family further expand across the film fraternity. Sati Rani Mukerji married producer Sashadhar Mukherjee (who established Filmistan Studio), and the couple’s children Joy, Deb, and Shomu Mukherjee went on to be a part of the entertainment industry.


Director-producer Shomu Mukherjee tied the knot with actress Tanuja, and the couple’s two daughters, Kajol and Tanishaa also forayed into films.

But Kajol’s filmyi connections don’t end there.


Her uncle, actor Deb Mukherjee, has a son - Ayan Mukerji who is known for blockbusters like 'Wake Up Sid' and 'Yeh Jawaani Jai Deewani'. His daughter, Sunita, is married to film-maker Ashutosh Gowariker.
