The Los Angeles Medical Examiner indicated that he died at a rehabilitation facility, but did not provide a cause of death. Gerber was Crawford and Rande Gerber’s eldest child and worked as a model. He followed his mother into the fashion industry, appearing in campaigns and runway shows for major brands including Calvin Klein and Dolce & Gabbana. In 2018, he also appeared alongside Crawford in a Pepsi Super Bowl LII commercial.

While Gerber maintained a relatively private personal life in his later years, his romance with Lexi Wood was one relationship that briefly played out in the public eye.

Gerber had captioned the photos with a declaration of happiness and affection, while Wood had commented that she was in love with him. Wood also shared her own post about the relationship, openly declaring that she was in love with Gerber.

The public display of affection came as the pair’s relationship was still relatively new, but reports later revealed that their connection had actually developed from a much longer friendship.

According to reports by People, Wood described the beginning of their romance as “funny” because the two had started as friends. They reportedly met through a mutual friend around seven years before they began dating. Despite knowing each other for years, Wood and Gerber described the romantic connection as love at first sight. Gerber said he had been in love with Wood from the moment he first saw her.

Wood also revealed that the relationship progressed quickly after their first date. Their relationship therefore went from a long-standing friendship to a public romance remarkably quickly.

Despite their affectionate social-media posts, the relationship did not last long. As per E! News, Gerber and Wood called it quits about a month after going Instagram official. A source explained that the pair realised very quickly that their relationship was unlikely to become long-term. E! News also reported that a source close to Wood said she was the one who initiated the split. The breakup came shortly after the couple had publicly celebrated their relationship, making the sudden end particularly notable.
