Despite what can be called a tumultuous year for auto industry, it seems like major automobile manufacturers are hopeful that the tide will turn in 2020.
2019 was the year which saw the automobile industry struggle to stand on its feet. Maruti-Suzuki, the country’s leading car manufacturer, reported a 32.7% decline in its total vehicle sales. While the numbers had already started falling in mid-2018, 2019 was the year when crisis hit the auto sector like never before.
According to ETAuto, car sales hit the lowest mark in 2019 since two decades. Despite what can be called a tumultuous year for auto industry, it seems like major automobile manufacturers are hopeful that the tide will turn in 2020.
As a result, manufacturers like Audi, Tata and MG are launching high-end cars that are expected to increase the sales this year.
Here’s a glimpse of the cars and bikes that are set to hit the streets in 2020.
We’ll begin with cars. The four-wheeler segment is usually a tough nut to crack but it seems like the good folks at Audi have mastered the challenges that come with it.
Taking the SUV segment by storm Q8 is expected to compete with the likes of BMW X6 and the Mercedes GLE Coupe.

The brand new Audi Q8 is expected to launch in India on January 15.
Audi has been experimenting with the SUV line-up and they have finally decided to make it global. While Q3, Q5 and Q7, the odd-numbered SUV collection was all about meeting traditional SUV requirement, Q2, Q4 and Q8 are all about pushing the envelope in the SUV segment.
Q8 is expected to compete with the likes of BMW X6 and the Mercedes GLE Coupe. The car is expected to come with a 3.0-litre TFSI petrol engine, which is tuned to offer a power output of 340 bhp.
Audi’s official website says, the “lounge character of the interior makes it an ideal companion for business or leisure.” The much-awaited SUV is likely to cost anywhere between Rs 1 cr- Rs 1.2 cr.
Rest assured, with Nexon EV, you can go on long journeys as it comes with a 30.2 kWh battery offering a maximum range of over 300 km on a single charge. The fully-electric Tata Nexon EV was unveiled on 19 December and is expected to be launched in India later this month. Nexon EV is not Tata’s first electric car (Read: Tigor EV) but it is the first generation of electric vehicles to use the new Ziptron electric powertrain technology.
Rest assured, with Nexon EV, you can go on long journeys as it comes with a 30.2 kWh battery offering a maximum range of over 300 km on a single charge. Isn’t that amazing? The car also comes with battery and motor warranty for eight years, IP67 compatibility and fast charging capability.

The car offers 245 Nm of peak torque, enough to reach triple digit speeds in 9.9 seconds. Tata Nexon EV is likely to be priced around Rs 14-15 lakh.

The ZS has an edge over Nexon EV when it comes to battery life.
It gets a 44.5 kWh battery pack that promises a range of 340 km on a single charge which is more than Nexon EV’s 300 km range. What’s more? The battery-powered synchronous motor can develop 141 bhp and 353 Nm of peak torque and it can do a 0-100 kmph sprint in just 8 seconds.
The car is expected to cost Rs 20-25 lakh.
Moving on to the bikes, we have several enigmatic two wheelers that cut across various segments. Here’s a look at a few of them.
Kawasaki’s latest offering is expected to be priced around Rs 17.99 lakh. This beast is expected to hit the Indian streets shortly. With a 998 cc engine, double disc brakes, the bike can generate a maximum power of 197 bhp and a peak torque of 114.9 Nm. It has a fuel injection ignition and mileage of 15 Kmpl.
Kawasaki’s latest offering is expected to be priced around Rs 17.99 lakh.
KTM has already unveiled the bike and unofficial bookings have already started with a token amount of Rs 10,000. Do you have the knack of conquering rough terrains? Then KTM 390 Adventure is the bike you must go for. It is powered by the 373 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor that produces 43.5 PS and 37 Nm torque.
KTM has already unveiled the bike and unofficial bookings have already started with a token amount of Rs 10,000. The bike comes with double disc brakes and Dual Channel ABS.
The bike, expected to launch later this month, is likely to cost Rs 3 lakh.
Husqvarna Vitpilen 250
The two bikes are expected to be priced in the Rs 2.50 lakh bracket. All eyes are on the Swedish bikemaker Husqvarna as the company is going to kickstart its operations in India with the Vitpilen 250 and the Svartpilen 250. Both the bikes are expected to be launched this year in February.
Both bikes come with 248 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which makes maximum power of 30 bhp at 9,000 rpm and 24 Nm of peak torque at 7,500 rpm.
The two bikes are expected to be priced in the Rs 2.50 lakh bracket.
