Friday OTT releases of the week: Alpha to Babita Singh Reporting to The Whisper Man, new movies and shows on Netflix, JioHotstar, Prime Video and ZEE5

The weekend is here, and for anyone planning to stay indoors with a good movie or series, OTT platforms have plenty lined up. This week brings a mix of high-profile Hindi films, international thrillers, regional romances and new series. From a YRF Spy Universe adventure featuring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari to a gripping crime story starring Robert De Niro, there is something for different kinds of viewers. Several titles are also arriving just in time for a relaxed weekend binge.

Alpha – Netflix

Alpha is streaming on Netflix from August 28, 2026 and stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in the lead roles. Directed by Shiv Rawail, the film marks the first female-led entry in the YRF Spy Universe. Alia plays Sita, a highly trained R&AW agent being groomed to become an Alpha soldier, while Sharvari plays Durga Kaul, her estranged fraternal twin.


The film brings together action, espionage and a complicated family relationship, making it one of the biggest Hindi OTT releases of the week.

Dark Matter Season 2 – Apple TV

The second season of Dark Matter arrives on Apple TV on August 28, 2026, with Joel Edgerton returning as Jason Dessen. The sci-fi series continues its exploration of alternate realities as Jason deals with the consequences of travelling through different versions of his life.

Based on Blake Crouch’s 2016 novel, the show revolves around a fascinating question: what if one decision could completely change the course of your life? The new season takes that idea further, introducing more mysteries and difficult choices for Jason.

Bandar – ZEE5

Bandar, starring Bobby Deol, premieres on ZEE5 on August 28, 2026 and is directed by Anurag Kashyap. The film revolves around a man whose life begins to unravel after he is accused by a woman, with public opinion and media scrutiny quickly shaping the narrative around him.

The story explores the impact of accusations and social judgement before the complete truth comes to light. For Bobby Deol, the film is also a departure from the larger-than-life roles that have defined some of his recent work.

The Whisper Man – Netflix

The Whisper Man releases on Netflix on August 28, 2026, with Adam Scott, Robert De Niro and Michelle Monaghan leading the cast. The film follows Tom Kennedy, a widowed crime writer whose eight-year-old son is kidnapped.

Desperate to find his child, Tom seeks help from his estranged father, a former police officer, and DI Amanda Beck. Their investigation soon takes a dark turn when they discover links to an old case involving a convicted serial killer known as the Whisper Man.

Part-Timers – JioHotstar

Part-Timers streams on JioHotstar from August 28, 2026, with Thanuja Puttaswamy and Gnaneswari Kandregula playing roommates Sindhu and Teju. The two women have contrasting personalities but share an ambitious dream of starting their own business.

Their attempt to turn their startup idea into reality becomes the centre of the story, while their friendship and everyday struggles add a personal touch to the series.

Anbe Diana – SonyLIV

Anbe Diana arrives on SonyLIV on August 28, 2026, starring Pari Elavazhagan as CSK and Ramya Ranganathan as Diana D’Souza. Set in Perambur, Chennai, the film follows a shy Telugu athletics coach who falls for his free-spirited Anglo-Indian neighbour.

Their romance begins to blossom, but family pressure and cultural differences create complications. The story combines romance with the lighter elements of a neighbourhood-based comedy-drama.

Babita Singh Reporting – Amazon Prime Video

Babita Singh Reporting premieres on Amazon Prime Video on August 28, 2026, starring Nimisha Sajayan as rookie police officer Babita “Baby” Singh and Barun Sobti as her childhood friend Bansi.

Babita returns home for her sister-in-law’s baby shower after getting suspended from duty. But the family celebration takes a dark turn when Bansi is murdered. She then begins investigating the case herself, uncovering secrets, betrayals and tensions within the family.

Chumbak – Netflix

Chumbak is also part of the week’s OTT lineup, arriving on Netflix on August 28, 2026. Set in a traditional Mumbai row-house neighbourhood, the film brings together five different households living side by side.

Through their everyday experiences with parenting, marriage, ageing and family life, the residents gradually develop a bond that goes beyond simply being neighbours. The film blends humour and emotion to tell a story about an unexpected surrogate family.
