Friday fury: Airtel broadband faces nationwide outage, Twitter loses it

Airtel broadband users across the country faced a momentary disruption in data connectivity on Friday. Network issues were reported from various corners of the country.

Exasperated users of Airtel, one of India’s largest telecom operators, took to social media to express their angst. While some complained about the discomfort over poor network connectivity, many users took to Twitter to share memes with their followers.

The telecom major, however, has acknowledged the issue saying that it has been resolved. The issue owing to a technical glitch impacted both broadband and cellular users.


“Our internet services had a brief disruption and we deeply regret the inconvenience this may have caused you. Everything is back as normal now, as our teams keep working to deliver a seamless experience to our customers,” said Airtel in a tweet.
Major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, etc., were affected by the network disruption. Following the outage, the hashtag ‘airtel down’ began trending on the internet.
Many users also shared hilarious memes comparing the telecom company with other major players. Based on the information from DownDetector, a portal that tracks connectivity of telecom services, the outage reportedly occured around 11 am.

"Our internet services were disrupted for appx 5 minutes today morning due to a technical glitch. This was immediately tackled and the network was fully normalised within the next 10 minutes. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our customers,” said Airtel Spokesperson.
Earlier this month, a similar outage was reported by Jio users. The network outage was reported by users from the Mumbai circle.
