Freddie Mercury's handwritten lyrics sell for £277,000: The rare pages that gave fans a look at his creative process

The notebook of Feddie Mercury has sold for £277,000 at auction. It included handwritten lyrics according to a Press Association report. the lyrics were the highest-selling lot on the first day of Propstore's Music Live Auction.

The handwritten material was related to recording sessions for Mercury's debut solo album, Mr. Bad Guy, released in 1985.

Freddie Mercury lyrics were part of Reinhold Mack collection

The lyrics were part of the Reinhold Mack Collection. The collection contains handwritten lyrics, recording memorabilia and personal gifts linked to Mercury and German record producer and engineer Reinhold Mack. Mack worked with Queen and Freddie Mercury and later became close friends with Mercury.

Other music memorabilia also sold

The auction included several other items linked to major music stars. Noel Gallagher's autographed Takamine FP460SC acoustic guitar sold for £226,800.

Gallagher owned and played the guitar during Oasis' 1996 MTV Unplugged performance. The sale set a world record for the highest auction price for an Oasis acoustic guitar, according to the reports.

A black-and-gold Michael Jackson jacket also sold for £226,800. The jacket was offered from the Omer Bhatti Collection. It had been given to Norwegian rapper and dancer Omer Bhatti by Jackson.

John Lennon's tinted prescription glasses sold for £126,000. The glasses were associated with the period known as Lennon's “lost weekend.” A Yamaha C3 grand piano connected to Mercury and other major artists sold for £81,900. Mercury's stage-worn black wraparound embellished top and flared trousers also sold at the auction. They fetched £75,600.

The first day of Propstore's Music Live Auction generated £2.5 million from the items sold, according to the Press Association report.
