Four ways to fight the post-holiday blues
A vacation brings hopes, dreams and aspirations with it. But along with them, it also brings the post-holiday blues. Dreary weather, the sun playing hide and seek games, and the feeling of going back to classes or office after enjoying a vacation makes you sink into depression. Vitamin D (or the lack of it) is responsible for this seasonal disorder. Exposure to natural sunlight is important for boosting your energy levels and keep you in good spirits. So we give you four surprising ways to fight the post-holiday blues and not feel stressed after going back to the grind.

Get Some Popeye Power

The vitamin B folate in spinach boosts the production of hormones that regulate your mood. It also perks you up and keeps depression at bay. Other such sources of B-vitamin folate are avocados and bananas.

Ditch The iPad

You can make up for the loss of vitamin D by exposing yourself to sunlight during the day time. But the light emitted by computers, tablets, smartphones and TV is extremely harmful as they throw off your circadian cycle. This amounts to depression. Hence, keep minimum contact with the devices and use dim lighting in the room too.

Stop Multitasking

Your brain can register only as much of data at a given time. If you use your smartphone to text, while watching TV or surfing on the web, then you are more likely to experience twice the amount of depression. This also leads to poor attention span and hence, may cause depression without you even knowing it.

Spend Time With Real People

Keeping in mind the recent times, we tend to dedicate most of our time to social networking-to the extent that we use Whatsapp to ask for a cup of coffee from our mothers. Another major reason that causes a stir in our lives is when we start relating too much to the fictional characters on television or in movies. Worrying about unreal or fictional characters can cause major depression, according to studies. Instead, spend some quality time talking or meeting up with your friends and you will automatically feel more upbeat.
