Key highlight: Great graphics

Over the years, the Forza franchise from the house of Microsoft has garnered a loyal fan following. Forza series of games was available on PC and consoles but remained elusive to mobile users till the recent launch of Forza Street.

The new game, available on iOS and Android, has a legacy to live up to. We gave the cars a spin to see what is under the hood.

To begin with, Forza is a slick game. It is visually appealing with a lot of night races and neon lighting. Microsoft has got that part absolutely bang on. Forza Street is mainly about one-on-one races as you have to take part as a driver in a series of races to progress in the game.

Forza Street has a lot of elements such as news anchors (not the shrill ones), secret patrons ready to help and even some cryptocurrency thrown in.

So far so good. But some problems crop up in the gameplay. The controls are very basic and there is very little “skill” involved in the game per se. The driving, braking, pushing on the gas pedal all feels very amateurish and unlike Forza.

The races last less than a minute and you’ll get the hang of controlling the car fairly quickly. Someone who hasn’t played car games might find it appealing as it is easy on the eye and easy to play as well. However, hardcore racing game enthusiasts are bound to get bored rather quickly with Forza Street. You need the whole excitement of changing gears, manoeuvring cars in tricky situations. But, sadly, all that is missing in Forza Street.

The graphics are great, though. Microsoft has paid a lot of attention to details and Forza Street has a cool set of wheels as well. There is an option to choose from classic, modern and retro cars like the 2015 Ford Mustang GT, 1991 BMW M3 and the 1969 Nissan Fairlady Z432.

At a time when the Asphalt series is pretty much the favourite with most mobile gamers, Forza Street could have done a lot better to catch the fancy of hardcore gamers. It is a fun game if you aren’t into racing-car games too much and are looking to kill some time without investing too much time in a game.
