Just hours after posting that he would be travelling back to see her, Shahidi Afridi on Tuesday morning announced that his sister had passed away. The former Pakistani cricketer posted an update on X, formerly known as Twitter, that his sister lost the battle against death but did not specify the condition.
The 46-year-old took to social media to reveal that his sister was struggling. Her deteriorating health condition had even prompted the retired cricketer to change his travel plans. While Afridi returned to see his ailing sister, she sadly passed away.
On Tuesday morning, the former all-rounder announced the details of his sister's funeral. Pakistani website Propakistani.pk reported that the prayers for the sister of the former captain of the Pakistan cricket team will take place at the Zikriya Mosque in Defense Housing Authority (DHA), Karachi.
After Afridi shared the news of his sister's demise, fans poured in condolences, expressing their sorrow at the loss. A social media user commented, "My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. May her soul rest in peace, and may you find strength and support in the days ahead."
On Monday, Afridi had shared his return plans to Karachi, where his sister was bravely battling her illness. He shared his heartfelt plea for prayers across his social media platforms.
He wrote, “I am travelling back to see you soon my love stay strong. My sister is fighting for her life right now, I request you to make Duas for her health, will mean a lot. May Allah give her speedy recovery and a long healthy life Ya Rabb.”
