NEW DELHI: Days after actor Rahul Bose complained about paying Rs 442 for two bananas at a five-star hotel in Chandigarh, a Twitter user shared a similar experience in Mumbai.
Further fuelling chatter on how star hotels charge for common items, author-photographer Kartik Dhar tweeted a picture on Saturday of his bill that showed Central Mumbai's Four Seasons Hotel charged Rs 1,700 for two boiled eggs, and goods and services tax of 18 per cent on the entire bill.
The bill copy showed omelettes priced the same as boiled eggs, and Diet Coke at Rs 260. He also tagged Bose in his tweet, asking if they should protest.

The tweet was shared over 1,500 times, and liked by over 3,400.
Not all the users were amused by the sum charged by the hotel, and a few also advised Dhar to be careful in the future and order only after reading the menu wherein the price will be listed.

It can be recalled that following the controversy over price of bananas involving Bose, the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) had justified the high price.
"a hotel offers service, quality, plate, cutlery, accompaniment, sanitised fruit, ambiance and luxury and not the commodity alone," FHRAI vice president Gurbaxish Singh Kohli had said.
He had added that while a coffee is available at Rs 10 on a roadside stall, the same could be served at Rs 250 in a luxury hotel. It can be noted that eggs are a favourite snack in the financial capital, and hawkers dot every neighbourhood and business district, selling the protein source for a small fraction of the price charged by the hotel.
Last month, the 'Jhankaar Beats' actor had shared a post on Twitter talking about the 'harmful to your existence' bananas.

Last month, a Melbourne man was the victim of one of the strangest burglaries. The thief did not make away with the expensive items in the house. Instead, he just ate all the chocolate. The victim was quoted saying, “He ate all my Cadbury Favourites.” The thief also enjoyed several cans of drink, cut his toenails and would have probably fixed himself dinner if the home owner didn’t come home when he did.

“Anyone offered large quantities [of chocolate] via unconventional channels should report it to the police immediately.” That was the public service announcement that was issued in April 2018 in Germany when thieves made off with a truckload of Nutella and Kinder chocolate eggs. The stolen treats were worth more than $80,000. The police were clueless about the motive of the robbers and suggested they were after the truck the chocolate spread was stored in.
Large-scale food thefts are not unheard of in this particular part of Germany, as five tonnes of coffee and a truckload of Red Bull energy drinks were also on the hit list.
