Forbes just released its Celebrity 100 list and for the first time ever, a sports personality has managed to dethrone a Bollywood biggie for the top spot.
Salman Khan, who had been ruling the top spot since 2016, has been toppled by Indian cricket team captain, Virat Kohli, thanks to his prolific run scoring spree and a glut of endorsements. Khan is currently at rank 3 with approximate earning of Rs 229.25 crores.
Another first on the list is the large number of women who have been featured. Two women, Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone have been featured in Top 10. Nearly one-third of the list is women personalities who have done well in their respective fields.
Another thing that is noteworthy here is that this year, celebs have earned 22% more than the previous year.
Brand Sachin Tendulkar is also going stronger than ever as the master blaster, just like the last few years, has managed to make it to Top 10 despite retiring in 2013. Tendulkar featured on number 9 and was ahead of star cricketer Rohit Sharma.

What’s more? The effects of OTT expansion and the content produced by platforms like Hotstar, Amazon Prime, Netflix and others can be seen in the way Kalki Koechlin (‘Made in Heaven’, ‘Sacred Games’) and Saif Ali Khan (‘Sacred Games’) have climbed up the list.
It seems like 2019 was a good year for culinary experts as several chefs have also made it to the list. Backed by their TV shows and brand endorsements, celebrity chefs Ranveer Brar and Vikas Khanna also featured on the list. Ranveer Brar and Vikas Khanna managed to clinch the 96th and 97th spot respectively.
As per the Forbes website, celebrity ranks are based on an aggregate of the estimated earnings and their calculated fame quotient, via print and social media reach.

In the lead-up to the 2011 World Cup, as part of a joint initiative by the ICC and 'Room to Read' to promote global literacy and access to books, Kohli revealed another favourite tome on his reading list.
“I like Andre Agassi’s autobiography. The author tells the story of his remarkable career, which featured many ups and downs. The best part about the book is that at no point does the author try to project himself as a ‘superhuman’. He is as human as you and me, but a champion and an inspiration,” said Kohli.
