Google is considered one of the best places to work, but for Madhav Bhagat, CTO of Spotdraft and a former Googler in New York, the pull of India and its possibilities were too hard to resist. “While Google has a strong work culture of pushing the boundaries of innovation, it’s hard for a young techie to really do something new or out of the area of focus, he said.

“Being such a large organisation, there is often something similar being done by some other team and at that point you unwittingly get shut out of the development and ideation processes. These factors combined with the H1B lottery axe hanging on my head were the reasons for me to leave the US and start a new chapter in India.” This year, the legal-tech startup raised $1.5 million (about Rs 11 crore) led by Binny Bansal and Sailesh Tulshan’s fund — 021 Capital.
