For India's most stylish 'Angoori bhabhi' Shubhangi Atre, there is peace even in the storm
Shubhangi Atre, widely known as Angoori Bhabhi from Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain!, captured attention beyond her iconic TV role through a simple yet striking social media post, where she donned an electric blue silk sari with the caption, “There is peac...

The image showed her in an electric blue silk sari paired with a multicoloured floral blouse. It wasn’t overstyled or dramatic, just simple, but it stood out. What made it linger even more was the caption she wrote alongside it: “There is peace even in the storm.”
The sari look itself was a reminder that sometimes minimal styling can still feel fresh. It didn’t try too hard, and maybe that’s why it worked. It showed someone who is comfortable experimenting, even if in small ways, without losing her core identity. That balance, in a way, mirrors her journey in the industry.
Moving beyond Angoori Bhabhi
Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain! has been a defining part of Atre’s career. She stepped into the role in 2016 after Shilpa Shinde exited the show, at a time when the character was already hugely popular. Taking over such a role came with pressure, something she has openly spoken about in past interviews. She once said in an interview with PTI, “As they say, I climbed into an already moving car, but thankfully all the actors supported me in a big way and welcomed me with a lot of love.”

Talking about how things have changed, she said, “Social media has come to have a huge benefit for actors. It gives you a platform to showcase different looks. Earlier, if you played a character on TV, you became that.”
According to Atre, the audience today is more open to seeing actors in different roles. She shared, “That way, the audience has also become very accepting… Now you don’t need to stay tied to an image. There is no stigma like that… It takes some time, but after a short break, you can start afresh.”
This shift is important for actors who have spent years playing one character. In her case, Angoori Bhabhi brought massive recognition, but it also created a strong association that she now wants to move beyond.
Her decision to step away from the show after several years was part of that process. She has also expressed interest in exploring new kinds of roles and formats, including films.

Personal life and finding peace
The line “There is peace even in the storm” also connects with her personal life, especially after her separation from Piyush Poorey in 2025. The two were married for over two decades before deciding to part ways.Speaking about that phase, in an interview with ETimes, she admitted that it was not easy, but also said that she now feels a sense of calm and a “newfound sense of freedom”. The decision, as she described it, came after facing issues that could not be resolved over time.
That context gives her old caption a slightly deeper meaning. It doesn’t feel like just a line anymore, but something that reflects lived experience.
From starting her career with shows like Kasautii Zindagii Kay to becoming one of television’s most recognisable faces, Shubhangi Atre’s journey has had its share of turns. The popularity of Angoori Bhabhi changed her career path, but it also set expectations she now wants to move past.
