Fashion will always be associated with glamour—but it’s also an industry that employs millions of people around the country. And one that has been badly hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Following the nationwide lockdown, the industry has witnessed a drastic dip in the sales of textiles and apparels, instantly affecting cash flow. While many designers are looking after the well-being of their craftsmen, a number of smaller businesses are not able to withstand the financial blow.

To help these smaller businesses, the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) recently established a Covid-19 Support Fund to offer financial assistance to small businesses and young designers in need and a number of leading, established designers are lending their support.

Among the designers pitching in to help are Manish Malhotra, Sabyasachi, Tarun Tahiliani and Rahul Mishra who each will be auctioning one of their masterpieces to raise funds for the FDCI Covid-19 Support Fund. The first item to be auctioned is one of designer Manish Malhotra’s most popular sequinned saris. Bidding is said to start at Rs. 1,15,000/-.

The four industry stalwarts will also join designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil for an interesting Instagram Live series focusing on where the industry is headed post the pandemic, dubbed “Fraternity Talks”.

The series is scheduled to begin on 18th April with designer Manish Malhotra talking to Shantanu and Nikhil about the impact of glamour on couture consumerism, the way forward for fashion and its role in social causes post the pandemic.
