Battle lines are drawn and the e-commerce giants have started flexing their muscle power. But looks like the war started days before the festive season. Flipkart’s app-only Big Billion Days sale has sent competitors into a frenzy. Amazon has kicked off a festive sale, as has Snapdeal and the competition extends beyond business to words on social media websites.

Two days prior to Flipkart’s sale, Snapdeal’s Chief Product Officer Anand Chandrasekaran tweeted a snapshot of Flipkart’s web homepage that said, "Service Unavailable”. "Guess this is part of the app only strategy,” tweeted Chandrasekaran, and tagged Flipkart’s Chief Product Office Punit Soni in one of his replies. "Anand, my friend :) we were testing our servers to prep for BBD. Sorry, you had issues. Best of luck for the festive season,” Soni tweeted right back.

Chandrasekaran, however, appeared to be more concerned about the web users, who he thought were "being left out in an app-only focus”. Expect more fireworks coming up.
