Indian-origin Rishi Sunak's appointment as Britain's new Prime Minister had left many Indians elated. Many celebrities took to social media to express their excitement about the development.

Music sensation Kanika Kapoor shared a throwback picture of herself with Sunak from the UK-India Awards 2022, held a few months ago by the India Global Forum. She met the then-UK Chancellor of the Exchequer when he presented her with the Special Award for Contribution to the UK-India Cultural Ties.

Alongside three pictures from the event, the 44-year-old could be seen engrossed in a conversation with Sunak. While she dazzled in a peacock green saree with a matching blouse for the event, the UK PM looked dapper in a tailored suit.

Her caption read, "Proud Moment for Great Britain. Rishi Sunak Prime Minister of the UK!"

Recently, Kapoor was in Mumbai for the Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI, being held at the Jio World Convention Centre.

Dressed in a maroon-coloured maxi skirt with a matching cropped and drawstring blouse, she turned showstopper for designer Swatti Kapoor on Day 2 of the event.

Earlier in May, the singer tied the knot with businessman Gautam Hathiramani in a traditional Hindu ceremony and a Christain wedding in the UK. It was a private, yet grand, ceremony. They also hosted a reception in London's Victoria and Albert Museum.

The 'Buhe Bariyan' singer has three children - Yuvraj (19), Aayana (17) and Samara (15) - from her first marriage to London-based Dr Raj Chandok from 1997-2012 (15 years).

Kapoor moved to Mumbai in 2012, and made her singing debut with the music video 'Jugni Ji' in 2013. After lending her voice to the famous song Baby Doll from the 2014 Sunny Leone-starrer 'Raagini MMS 2', she gained instant popularity.

Over the years, she has been a part of several hits in Hindi films. She was also a judge for a singing reality show 'The Voice' in season three.

Meanwhile, the newly-appointed British PM and his family will live in a smaller flat above No 10 Downing Street, which has been the UK's prime ministerial residence since 1735, according to the government's website. He will receive an annual public grant of 30,000 pounds to spend on living quarters.

The No 10 Downing Street serves three functions - the PM's official residence, his office and where he entertains guests from world leaders to royalty.

Sunak, along with his wife Akshata Murty and two daughters, stayed in the flat when he was chancellor to former UK PM Boris Johnson.
