Tarang Arora, CEO, Amrapali Jewels, on how a brooch elevates his suit game:

Style code
“My preferred suit style is business casual — a twopiece suit paired with loafers. The suit should be smartly cut but you can skip the tie. I think this style works in most places and you don’t feel overdressed or underdressed.”

Tailored vs. off the rack
“As kids, we had a few tailored suits that my parents chose but the first one I chose wasn’t. It was an off-the-rack black pinstriped suit from Hugo Boss that I purchased during one of my first trips to New York. Things were very different in those days. Twenty years ago, we weren’t too aware of cuts or colours but I loved that suit because it was the first one I chose. I think I still have it somewhere.”

Brand speak
“I buy my suits from Savile Row. They house the best tailors.”

Fair weather
“One of the problems with buying a suit abroad is that you can only wear it on certain days or weather conditions. Living in London required me to wear a proper suit attire for events — a good suit, socks, nice shoes and an overcoat.”

Suit and bling
“I wear accessories all day long — a good watch, cufflinks, ties, lapels pins – but my favourite would be brooches. I have multiple brooches and wear them on different occasions, especially when I’m travelling for my exhibitions. I also have quite a few bandhgalas that I have had made with interchangeable buttons and I keep adding to that.”

Style Inspiration
“The television series Suits has some of the best suits.”

Final tip
“Packing a suit can destroy them. Always travel with a suit bag.”
