Five ways to fight flab this Diwali
It's the festival of lights, yet you feel heavy after feasting. We tell you how to indulge without needing a new wardrobe:

1. Prepare in advance

You know you're going to be surrounded by treats soon, but don't let the thought make you crave sweets already. A few days before Diwali, try to eat light so that you can cut some slack when the samosas and laddoos find their way to you.

2. Go nuts

Lucky for you, there are healthy options offered when visiting friends and family. Sweets and fried snacks may be tempting, but pick on nuts and dried fruits instead of a calorieladen dessert. It may be boring, but you'll thank us the next day.

3. Do your research

We're encouraging you to pick the healthy option, but don't steer clear of sweets altogether. Opt for sandesh and rasgullas instead of gulab jamuns; they are lower in calories. Squeeze out the excess sugar to further cut calories.

4. There is a tomorrow

When it comes to the festive season, we live in the moment — simply because it's just so much fun. But remind yourself that the sweets and food will be there tomorrow. And the day after. Sure, Diwali comes once a year, but there are always other occasions to indulge.

5. Drink up

We mean water. While visiting friends and relatives, you'll be offered aerated drinks or cola. Just say no. The calories in these sugar-laden drinks will play havoc with your system. Ask for a glass of water and you will have made the healthier choice.
