First grandchild for Kishore Biyani

Happy tidings are in order for Kishore Biyani, modern retail rajah and CEO of Future Group, who is now a proud grandfather. His elder daughter Ashni delivered a baby girl on April 5 at Breach Candy hospital in south Mumbai.

Both mother and baby are doing fine, the beaming grandmother Sangita Biyani says. The baby was named Aashvi, which means victorious and blessed. "She is the first grandchild in our family and we are thrilled," says Sangita.

When contacted, Kishore Biyani laughed and said, "Our feelings are too personal to share, but birth is a part of the evolution of life."

After spending the past few weeks at her home at Grand Paradi, Kemps Corner, Ashni will be going to her parent's home on Wednesday.

Ashni Biyani, a textile design graduate from Parsons The New School for Design in New York, is the director of Future Ideas and is also the first woman in the family to handle the business.

She married Viraj Didwania, nephew of Anil Agarwal, chairman of the Vedanta group, in 2010. Didwania owns a ship-building company.
