You may think that you are displaying your best, but the line between the two can get very blurry. Hold tight, we let you know which side you are on.

Find out if you appear chivalrous or creepy to your date
Chivalry isn't dead — it's just regarded with a lot more suspicion than before. ETPanache lets you know whether your suave moves are making her gush or gasp:

Pulling out the chair

Back in the day, women used to wear layers, making squeezing into a restaurant seat rather difficult. But today, with the little black dress a staple for most women, the act of pulling out her chair becomes redundant. Do continue to do so, but there's no need to push it in. She can adjust that herself.

Ordering her meal for her

This used to be seen as the ultimate macho move and would make it seem like you're the man in charge. But, women have probably been seething for years looking into their salad when all they were craving is a nice, juicy steak. She's an adult and can decide what she wants to eat. This gesture is only helpful when she doesn't know how to pronounce something on the menu.

Giving her your coat

This is perfectly acceptable to do — provided you know the woman well enough. However, don't go the Putin way and just place the coat or shawl on her. Ask her if she would like your jacket. It's likely she will say no the first time, to which you should point out she is shivering and hand it to her. The key here is to hand it to her.

Walking with her

Walking her home. Sweet. Walking her to the bathroom. Creepy. Remember that women have been surviving all their toilet trips without you and while it is chivalrous to see that she's reached home all right, walking her to the restroom is plain unnecessary. If you want to be a gent, a small gesture like standing up when she excuses herself should suffice.

Carrying a heavy bag

Offering to carry her purse is not needed. And if you have just met this woman, it's going to be regarded with a certain amount of suspicion whether you're going to run away with it or not. While offering to carry her purse or handbag is off limits, offering to help her carry her shopping bags/ gym bag till her car if she is visibly struggling with them is fine.
