Feast before the fast: Bindu Kapoor's pre-'karva chauth' lunch

On Tuesday afternoon, Yes Bank founder and CEO, Rana Kapoor’s wife Bindu Kapoor hosted her annual pre-karva chauth lunch for a motley bunch of ladies at their residence at Samudra Mahal in South Mumbai.

The couple’s daughter, Radha, says that the lunch has become a tradition. "It started with a get together of ladies who were from the north Indian culture and who fast on karva chauth. But over the years, it’s been about reaching out to those of other communities as well, who celebrate the day in one form or another."

Those in attendance included Neerja Birla, Aarti Surendranath, Jaya Raheja, Priti Shroff, Anjali Mariwala, Queenie Singh Sethia, Mona Narang and Debbie Hitkari. The elaborate lunch spread was entirely homemade and included many varieties of chaat, appams with vegetable stew and prawn curry, chole bhatura and kheema pav.
