Aside from farming, Gill is passionate about hockey - a passion he inherited from his father and maternal uncle.
For Shehnaz Gill, Senior Vice President - Operations, Coca-Cola India, farming is an extremely crucial part of his life. Each time he goes home to visit his family’s ancestral farm, he is humbled and reminded of his roots.
“It not only helps me maintain a spiritual connection with my roots, but also has a deep sentimental value for me as I have seen my grandfather work in those (same) fields. As a young child all the way into my teen years, my parents ensured we spent a significant portion of all holidays in the village to develop a relationship with our grandparents and to also understand first-hand what farming is all about. As a consequence, I can relate very well to the trials and hardships of the masses of people engaged in farming.”
“Farming helps one to connect with nature on a very personal level. To see the joy and satisfaction of a farmer harvesting their crop is a joy in itself and God forbid sometimes when nature’s fury damages the crop, one is humbled by the power of the elements.”
If Gill could spend the day with any one individual at his farm, he would pick Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, without any hesitation.

Hockey at Heart Aside from farming, Gill is passionate about hockey (both domestic and internationally) - a passion he inherited from his father and maternal uncle. “It runs in my family. In fact, I was named after a famous former International hockey captain - Shahnaz Sheikh.”
Although he played hockey through school and college, Gill doesn’t get the chance to play much today. “Due to work schedule and city life, I don’t get to play so much on the ground, but I am keenly following the sport in India and globally. It’s been amazing to see the evolution of the sport into a fast paced, entertaining one, especially the revival of Indian hockey in a modern format.”
